The child's intellect does not work in isolation, but is everywhere and is always intimately bound up with his body, particularly with his nervous and muscular system, which is emphasized in the Montessori Sensorial curriculum teaching guide book.

The sensorial materials comprise of a series of objects, grouped together according to some physical quality, which they have, such as color, shape, size, sound, texture, ...etc.

The ancient saying, "There is nothing in the intellect which was not first in some way in the senses", and senses being explorers of the world, opens the way to knowledge, says Maria Montessori.

By multiplying sense experiences and developing the ability to evaluate the smallest differences in various stimuli, one's sensibilities are refined and one's pleasure increased. "Beauty is found in harmony, not in discord; and harmony implies affinities, but these require a refinement of the senses if they are to be perceived."  (Discovery of the Child, M.M pg. 148)

The aim of the Montessori sensorial is to educate the child's senses. This curriculum area contains specific Montessori sensorial materials and activities that can help the child refine his or her experience of sight, sound, touch, taste and smell.
